The Diabetic Diet Plan - For Healthy Living
Want to live healthy? then a diabetic diet may be just what you need, especially for those who have diabetes or pre-diabetes. Having to maintain your blood sugar level is critical. You will need to change the food choices that you may have previously made with regards to your diet. Without doing so, you may be increasing your risk of developing even greater health issues.
To start, let us review what occurs in such instances. The blood sugar (AKA: blood glucose) is simply too high. Glucose fuels energy to the cells in the muscles and tissues and is needed for us to function normally. But, in diabetics, the Glicose builds up in the blood instead of fueling the body with the energy.
Following the proper diet and making the necessary changes will avoid this from happening. Therefore, taking the steps to change the way you eat is a must. You will need to try and stay away from (or at least cut down significantly) the amount of refined foods you eat. These include but are not limited to white rice, potatoes, pastas and so-on. You will find that all these foods are usually available in whole grain and that would be the better choice.
You will also want to include oatmeal, millet and other interesting foods in to your diet. It is also important to up your intake of fruits and vegetables. However, you should choose a variety of fruits and vegetables in different colors. A Diabetic Diet does not have to be boring.
The foods mentioned above take longer to digest and therefore will not cause a spike your blood sugar levels as the refined foods will.
Not only will you need to eat right, but if you are overweight, you should make a commitment to yourself to lose weight and become more active. Physical activity can include brisk walking and so-on. Make sure you get at least 30 minutes of activity each day. If you cannot do a 30 minute stretch, then break it up throughout the day.
